Case Study

Falkirk Council - Aico Alarms

Devine Energy is a long-term partner of Falkirk Council, and has delivered a wide range of renewable and electrical services on behalf of the local authority, with a focus on improving the safety and energy efficiency for tenants across the region.

Due to changing Scottish Government regulations, every home in the country must have an interlinked fire, heat, and carbon monoxide alarm system; specifically, a category LD2 system. This system requires the installation of detectors in all circulation spaces that form part of the escape routes from the dwelling, along with specified rooms or areas that present a high fire risk to occupants.

Falkirk Council awarded the contract to Devine Energy after a competitive tender process. The project required the customer-first experts to successfully complete more than 12,000 inspection visits at a rate of approximately 800 per month. This was achieved through a planned and comprehensive communications plan led by Tenant Liaison Officers. Tenants were contacted through a variety of routes from letter, text message, to doorstep visits. This increased the rate of property access, as tenants felt comfortable with both the process, and with Devine Energy as trusted contractors.

Tenant Communication Plan

  • Devine Energy created a comprehensive tenant communications plan, which was implemented via letter, text, and doorstep visits
  • This supported high levels of tenant’ confidence in Devine Energy, and ensured high rates of access
  • This allowed Falkirk Council to meet regulatory compliance requirements

AICO interlinked alarm system

  • AICO interlinked alarms work together to give the widest possible fire response
  • Sensors are constantly monitored using intelligent software
  • As a market leading product, AICO alarms offer high false alarm immunity

The impact

The programme of LD2 interlinked fire, heat, and carbon monoxide alarm systems carried out on behalf of Falkirk Council across 12,000 properties, has hugely increased tenant safety and ensured compliance with 2022 Scottish Government legislation.

Through a comprehensive tenant engagement plan, Tenant Liaison Officers were able to secure enhanced access rates to properties, activating a speedy installation schedule in more than 800 properties per month.
